Role summary / purpose This position serves as an Owner representative, who is responsible for basic technical work in a wide range of health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with the organization's H&S standards and with federal, state and local regulatory requirements. Works under general supervision and often self-directed. Key responsibilities • Monitor and observe work activity and provide technical and intervention direction to enable the prevention and control of H&S incidents and hazards • Recommend improvements in basic processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazard potential • Maintain current knowledge of specific requirements imposed by governmental agencies and internal programs, procedures and processes • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel working on environmental, health or safety programs • Assist work teams and vendors in resolving concerns and compliance deficiencies • Ensure a safe work environment is maintained through the identification and correction of H&S-related hazards and risks • Perform daily and routine field observations to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, and environmental issues • Interface with site Health & Safety professionals, contractor safety representatives, and project/contract managers to correct deficiencies and resolve issues • Attend and participate in project/outage meetings, Safety/Environmental Steering Team (SEST) meetings, Pre-Job Briefings and other required meetings • Perform incident trend analysis and develop safety/health improvement initiatives • Administer and facilitate enforcement of safety initiatives • Conduct site safety inspections including observations for environmental issues such as container labeling/control, potential refueling spills, and hazardous materials • Provide routine updates of H&S issues to site H&S contacts and project managers • Participate in incident investigations as necessary • Assist with or provide training to contractors for various health and safety topics including site orientation • Communicate with all project/outage employees regarding job safety/health and environmental compliance • Notify appropriate project lead personnel to facilitate timely correction of deficiencies • Report all findings to contracting firm management and site H&S/EHS contacts • Maintain working knowledge of basic environmental requirements to identify non-compliance issues • Immediately notify appropriate personnel of incidents involving potential asbestos or lead-containing materials • Maintain a log of identified H&S/EHS issues and resolutions • Document observed unsafe behavior or conditions and safe behavior Requirements – education & experience • 10+ years of discipline experience and unique subject matter expert skills Employment details – type, location, hours • Required personal protective equipment: Hard hat, ANSI-approved safety glasses with side shields, ANSI-approved protective footwear (boots with 3/4 upper or shaft, steel or composite toes)
