Power Plant Construction Manager

Role summary / purpose The construction manager is responsible for the project's success from a field level. Construction managers spend more time at their computer than in the field and serve as the quarterback of the project in the field. They are the bridge between the field and the Project Manager. This position is approximately 70% office and 30% field. Key responsibilities • Preconstruction: Review and understand all contract documents, contractor safety plans, permits, road use agreements, crossing agreements, SWPPP, haul routes, drawings, materials, schedules, QA/QC requirements, and engineering submittals • Conduct and attend kickoff meetings and site-specific orientations to set expectations for the project • Lead and train the internal team on site safety orientation, site-specific safety plans, and safety assessments • Collect independent data and documentation; complete safety assessments and QA/QC reports in designated systems • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with contractors • Ensure safety compliance and quality standards throughout construction; monitor adherence to specifications and drawings • Track project progress against schedules (C1 and Contractor P-6) and approve Construction Status Updates • Monitor environmental constraints and SWPPP compliance before and during work activities • Coordinate outages and crossings; maintain active involvement rather than delegating solely to the contractor • Gather accurate project data independently; do not rely solely on contractor-provided information • Prepare and submit weekly reports and trackers to the Project Manager by Friday end of day • Manage and coordinate with additional internal resources including environmental, safety, material management, subject matter experts, and land agents • Ensure all communication between internal specialists and contractors is directed through the construction manager • Maintain accurate documentation for potential change order disputes and executive reporting Required skills • Strong knowledge of construction documents, contracts, and project specifications • Proficiency with project management systems and reporting tools • Excellent communication and leadership abilities • Attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection and documentation • Safety awareness and commitment to maintaining a zero-injury workplace • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate across teams • Problem-solving skills and ability to work with subject matter experts Employment details – type, location, hours Field-based construction management position with approximately 70% office and 30% field work.
