Role summary / purpose We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Architect to lead the architecture, engineering standards, and strategic direction for the enterprise Windows Server and virtualization platforms. This role is responsible for defining enterprise standards, modernizing compute infrastructure, and driving an automation-first strategy across VMware, Microsoft Azure Local, Nutanix, and hybrid cloud environments. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Windows Server, virtualization, hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), and enterprise automation with hands-on experience designing scalable, highly available compute platforms. This individual will establish enterprise architecture standards and lead modernization initiatives that improve operational efficiency, resiliency, security, and infrastructure automation. Key responsibilities • Define enterprise architecture standards for Windows Server, VMware, Azure Local, Nutanix, and enterprise compute platforms. • Develop multi-year technology roadmaps for virtualization, Windows infrastructure, hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), and hybrid cloud. • Design highly available, secure, and scalable enterprise compute platforms supporting mission-critical workloads. • Architect enterprise virtualization solutions using VMware vSphere, Azure Local, and Nutanix AHV. • Develop reference architectures for Windows Server lifecycle management, virtualization, disaster recovery, business continuity, and platform modernization. • Lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives and establish enterprise automation standards for compute provisioning and lifecycle management. • Design automated provisioning workflows for Windows servers, virtual machines, storage, networking, Active Directory integration, and enterprise infrastructure services. • Establish engineering standards for Terraform Enterprise, Ansible Automation Platform, PowerShell, Git, REST APIs, and CI/CD pipelines. • Define standards for Windows image management, security baselines, patching, compliance, and configuration management. • Collaborate with networking, storage, Linux, cloud, identity, security, and application teams to deliver integrated enterprise infrastructure solutions. • Evaluate emerging technologies including Azure Arc, Azure Local, Nutanix Cloud Platform, VMware Cloud Foundation, containers, and AI-enabled infrastructure. • Lead platform modernization initiatives, migrations, technology refreshes, and architecture reviews. • Develop enterprise standards, reference architectures, engineering documentation, and operational best practices. • Mentor engineering teams and promote automation-first engineering practices across enterprise compute platforms. Requirements – education & experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). • 10+ years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience. • 5+ years in an infrastructure architecture or technical leadership role. • Experience designing enterprise compute platforms supporting hundreds or thousands of virtual machines. • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing infrastructure automation solutions. • Experience with hybrid cloud architectures including Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
